We also see a little bit of Kublai as a child though he is not a major character this book. Not quite the same level as the earlier ssilver books but still a very good historical adventure story.

Before reading this book, I knew Iggulden only by reputation. The Great Khan is dead. So once you find an author who can so creatively rouse your interest and get you invested into researching it’s a brilliant thing. In ‘Wolves of the Silger, there’s the desperation of Genghis Khan’s early years: No trivia or quizzes yet.
I hope he continues to trace the history of Genghis Khan ‘s successors to include what transpires after Kublai, including Batu and the Jochid Golden Horde, Ghazan of the Muslim Ilkhanate, and the Ming revolt over the Yuan under Kublai’s descendants.

The over-all quality is high, although I still find that the first book was the best by far. The number of characters is never overwhelming and you become emotionally invested in their lives.

If I had read this book as a standalone, without its three predecessors, I think that I may have awarded it five stars. I suppose the one thing that links all those is the love of a good tale. I was also devastated with the deaths of other characters that weren’t as horrible and natural but nonetheless heartbreaking because of the fondness I’ve created for these characters over the series.
This is the fourth novel in the Conqueror series, continuing the saga of the Khan dynasty. In this book, Genghis has previously died and the leadership of the nation is up for grabs. The ending of the book for me was the strongest part and it was interesting to take down the King and kingdom of Hungary. They are strong people.
They had already burned half of it and taken out supporting troops from western Europe. Highly recommend not only for people who like historical fiction but also for those who like great story lines. Though it seems a dated idea now, I began teaching when boys were told only girls were good at English, despite the great names that must spring to mind after that statement.

It was already well established that Iggulden is incredibly well read with the historical aspect of the story and of course with the extremely vivid battle sequences, but re “Time slipped like oil through his hands and he could not hold a single instant of it” The battles themselves there are famous, and should events have turned out differently, the Mongol tumans would no doubt have conquered sea to sea and claimed the entirety of Europe, altering our history forever.
The history is fascinating, and Mr Iggulden uses it as the basis for a terrific novel. Family squabbles over who inherits what are about vast lands and wealth but all the same are still family squabbles. I love just about anything by David Gemmell, or Peter F.
