Thanks for the feedback mate The positive things I will end on are that for those with good experience of ray tracing, it’s an excellent reference book.

I would much have preferred to construct the whole thing from scratch myself, with no pre-made cumbersome classes where you don’t use half of the functionality until much later into the book, mean while, it clutters and confuses the reader trying to learn the early-stage code that sufferm mixed in with it.

A K Peters, Limited Abingdon: With the increase in computing speed and due to the high quality of the optical effects it achieves, ray tracing is becoming a popular choice for interactive and animated rendering. When I approached this project, I had zero knowledge of ray tracing and I found “From the Ground Up” a mis-leading title for the book because it starts with a pretty complicated pre-made OOP heavy framework with a basic UI etc which while nice, isn’t ideal if you want to learn the basic principles of the ray tracing technique.
It’s great to see Kevin’s ray tracing notes published in the book Ray Tracing from the Ground Upas this allows a much wider audience to access the material. These contain the ray traced images, and build functions for most of the images. It’s suitable for undergraduate and graduate computer graphics courses and individual programmers who would like to learn ray tracing.
