In order to fully understand and appreciate this poem, I think you need to have a strong understanding of classic mythology and a love of reading history.
Despite all this, a true classic and a definite recommend with one caveat: I never met an epic I didn’t like. The Portuguese national epic was fun to read aloud. I read this a long time ago in school which is not the best situation to really enjoy a book, but I found it interesting at the time.
